The Wilmington Lifestyle

Relocating To The Greater Wilmington Area

Come to the Cape Fear Coast and find out why it’s a great place to live!

Here are some tips on finding the perfect neighborhood in Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and the greater Wilmington area. We offer detailed information about each area and greater New Hanover County so you can make the best choice. I’m here to help.

What type of weather do you prefer?

Summer temperatures are usually in the mid to upper 80s. Our seasons are pleasant and mild, with an average 212 sunshine days and a mean average temperature of 63.7 degrees Fahrenheit. With the average winter temperature of about 50 degrees, winters are comfortable and temperate. You can experience 4 distinct seasons without the extremes. It rarely snows so leave the snow shovel before you move south!

Make a list of amenities you require

List the things that are most important to you in a neighborhood. Consider things such as proximity to movies, health clubs, schools, churches, stores, etc. Think about the recreational activities you enjoy the most and then prioritize your list. This will help us pinpoint particular neighborhoods with these activities and/or amenities close by.

Consider the school district

If you have children, no doubt you’ll be concerned about the school district in which the neighborhood resides. Find out what are the average class size, test scores and incidences of violence in the school system and what enrichment and extracurricular activities the schools offer. Either your Realtor or the Department of Education in that town will have that information. Even if you don’t have children, a home in a good school district will be easier to sell in the future.

Is the neighborhood safe?

Ask your Realtor or the police department for crime statistics. Find out what types of crimes are committed as well as the number. You should see a trend from year to year. Is it increasing or decreasing?

The area’s economic stability

Determine if the neighborhood is economically stable (Its is-Wilmington and the surrounding areas are experiencing great employment opportunity!). You can get this information by requesting it from me or the city’s economic development office. Check to see if income and property values are stable or raising. Ask your Realtor (better yet-ask me) about price appreciation trends in the area. See if there are any planned developments for the neighborhood such as a new school or a highway. These can affect the future value of the home.

Check it out

If possible, visit the areas in which you are considering. Walk around to get a general feel of the neighborhood. Are the homes well maintained? Are the streets quiet? Talk with the people you meet along the way. Are they friendly? I would be happy to personally introduce you to any area/neighborhood. Contact me and we will coordinate a tour of the areas of your choice. From exciting oceanfront properties, Intercoastal waterway estates to inland homes, townhomes and condos, your choices are unlimited!

Schedule your visit to the area now. I can help!

These are important considerations to make when making a purchase as large as a home. Remember, you’ll be the one living here so make your best effort to see if it’s a good fit.
